EWU cheerleaders present kid’s camp

CHENEY — Eastern Washington’s cheerleaders are presenting another edition of their kids cheer camp that culminates with a performance at an EWU football game.

On Friday, Sept. 6 participants will learn motions to cheers, jumps, stunts, and a dance, which will be performed the following day, Sept. 7 at the EWU Football Game. They will receive real cheerleading pom poms, a EWU Cheer t-shirt, and admission into the game.

Ulm listed in top-20 prospects for CFL Draft

CHENEY — Going into his senior season as an Eagle, wide receiver Nolan Ulm is getting attention from in his home country. Ulm was listed among the Top-20 Canadian-born prospects for the 2025 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft, slate at No. 6. 

The rankings are compiled by the CFL Scouting Bureau, including scouts, player personal directors and general managers from the league’s nine teams. The Scouting Bureau releases rankings in the fall, winter and spring, leading up to the 2025 draft. 

Ulm, from Kelowna, B.C. was named to Phil Steele’s preseason All-Big Sky second team earlier this summer after earning a fourth team honor from Steele last season. 

In 2023, Ulm caught 45 passes for 564 yards - 12.3 yards per catch - and had four touchdown catches. Ulm’s yards total ranked second on the team and 15th in the Big Sky.

Eagles blank Coyotes 2-0

VERMILLION, SD. — Another morning match, another victory. Eastern in their third road match to start off the season left victorious in their 2-0 victory over South Dakota. 

It was scoreless until a Kendall Moore penalty kick goal in the 40th minute gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead before the end of the half.

In the second half the Eagles struck again with Katrina Kupp recording her first of her career goal in the 77th minute. With Kupp’s goal, through three games all six goals have been scored by a different Eagles player.

In goal, Kamryn Willoughby was challenged as the Coyotes recorded 17 shots with five on goal. Before the end of the first half, Willoughby made a big save to maintain the shutout.

The Eagles have already matched last season’s win total and have already exceeded their wins on the road (2) in the past two seasons combined.

The Eagles are 2-1 to open the season and will finish their four game road series Aug. 29 against Southern Utah. Eastern will be home Sept. 5 at EWU soccer field to host UC Davis at 4 p.m. in their home opener.

VOLLEYBALL:

Central edges Eastern in exhibition

CHENEY — Central Washington took an early 8-5 lead and held on to claim a fifth and tie-breaking set 15-13 and win an exhibition match 3-2 at Reese Court, Aug. 24.

Kalista Lukovich led the Eagles on offense with 16 kills and 13 digs for a double-double. On the defensive side, Makenna Collins recorded 26 digs and Alyssa Radke collected eight blocks.

In the fourth set Eastern held a slim lead before Central went on a 7-1 run, to tie at 24-24 before recording a 26-24 win to force the tiebreaker.

Eastern opens the regular season at the Utah Valley Tournament, where they will play three games from Aug 30-31.
