CHENEY – Eastern Washington University (EWU) received two new members to its Board of Trustees, Carol Evans and Alexis Alexander, both alumni, who have been appointed by Gov. Jay Inslee to serve five-year terms until September 2029.
Evans, a former chairwoman of the Spokane Tribal Business Council, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from EWU, earned in 1991, and received an honorary doctorate in June for her contributions to her tribe and community.
She was the first woman to serve as tribal chair for the Spokane Tribe of Indians and has extensive experience in fiscal management from her 28-year tenure as the tribe’s chief financial officer.
“We must continue to educate ourselves throughout life,” Evans shared, “I am honored to be appointed to the EWU Board of Trustees and hope to help make college education a success for all students.”
Alexander, who recently chaired the EWU Foundation Board of Directors, earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2008 and a Master of Business Administration in 2014 from EWU. He is the director of information technology infrastructure at Avista Corporation and was a standout athlete at Medical Lake High School and EWU.
“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve the university, particularly among such a talented leadership team,” Alexander said. “I do not take the responsibility lightly and will do all I can to carry forward the university’s long-standing legacy of success.”
Evans and Alexander replace outgoing trustees Kim Pearman-Gillman and Robert Whaley. The Board of Trustees collaborates with the university president to chart EWU’s strategic course, ensuring academic excellence and financial responsibility.
