Korean BBQ restaurant opens in Cheney

Wings Pan hand-crafted food on menu

CHENEY – Cheney's food scene is about to get a boost with the opening of a new Korean BBQ restaurant this week in downtown.

Wings Pan, the brainchild of Augy Park, offers a menu featuring handcrafted Buffalo wings, Korean fried chicken, Bulgogi (Korean BBQ) bowls, and more.

"I have been developing the perfect chicken wings for two years," said Park, the owner of Wings Pan. Inspired by Buffalo Joe's in Chicago, known for its iconic wings that draw people from miles around, according to Park.

Park has been diligently perfecting his sauce recipes, testing them on friends and family until he was confident they were ready for the public.

Park's journey to opening Wings Pan hasn't been without its challenges. He initially tried launching a food truck in Puyallup but faced health department obstacles that forced him to put his dream on hold while he worked as a marketing executive.

"Early this year, things started to line up for me," Park shared. "There were a number of things that needed to be in place, and they started happening."

When he began searching for a restaurant location, Park found an ideal spot equipped with all the necessary cooking appliances, minimizing the need for extensive renovations. The only catch? The location was in Cheney, across the state from his home in Puyallup.

Fortunately, Park's remote job allows him the flexibility to move and manage his new venture while maintaining a steady income.

Park is confident that his menu, which includes Kalbi beef cut short ribs and chicken with various sauces like Pineapple Sunrise, lemon pepper, and maple ginger.

He explained that this will attract college students and lovers of authentic Korean BBQ alike. He is particularly excited about offering Chimac, a popular Korean street food comprising crunchy Korean fried chicken paired with a cold beer.

"As we grow, so will our menu," Park said. "I'll experiment with flavors based on what sells best."

Park just moved his family to Cheney and now has opened Wings Pan.

"Cheney residents can look forward to a new culinary experience that promises to bring the rich flavors of Korean cuisine," Park concluded.

Wings Pan is located at 401 1st Street in Cheney.
