From July 1-24, temperatures consistently ran well-above average, with 14 days surpassing norms by at least 10 degrees and six days soaring to 100 degrees or higher, peaking at a blistering 107 degrees on July 12, records show.

The hot streak continued into early August, with temperatures reaching 101 degrees on Thursday and hitting 105 degrees Friday, marking a total of eight days above 100 degrees this summer, so far.

According to the weather service, the record for most 100-degree days in a year still stands at 15, set in 1961 between June 29 and Aug. 5, with the highest temperature that year recorded at 102 degrees.

Looking ahead, despite intermittent cool spells and thunderstorms, the National Weather Service forecasts continued above-average temperatures through August.

Just three years ago, on June 29, the area registered its highest-ever temperature — 109 degrees, weather records show.
