CHENEY – KXLY Extreme Team gives Veterans Memorial Park make-over and clean up on July 24.

The KXLY Extreme Team, led by Mark Peterson and the KXLY 4 News team, conducted a makeover and clean-up at Veterans Memorial Park. The project involved trimming tree branches, painting picnic tables, placing bark in the playground, and planting flowers.

"We'll also install LED lights under the American flag, which have been out for years," said Peterson. VFW Post 11326 Commander Rick Mattausch emphasized the importance of restoring the lights.

The team, supported by BJ Roofing, Rodda Paint, and Mountain States Electric Work, also upgraded the park bathroom with new paint and lighting. Horizon Credit Union's Community Engagement Manager, Kathleen Makena, and the HZCU Go-Givers volunteered for the effort.

The City Public Works Department crew assisted significantly, according to Peterson.

The event saw a special visit from 93-year-old Jim Valentine, a Korean War veteran and Purple Heart recipient, who contributed to the park's veteran memorial bricks.
