Finished third in district play
Andrew Roberts rounds the bases following his home run in the West Plains Cannons' 12-0 American Legion AAA District playoff win, July 18 vs Pullman at Holliday Field in Medical Lake. Roberts' blast to right-center field was part of an eight-run third inning that helped the Cannons break open a game they led just 2-0 at the time.
The West Plains Cannons will make what could be an unprecedented fourth consecutive trip to the Washington State American Legion state playoffs following their third place finish last week in district play.
The Cannons finished 3-1 in pool play with wins 12-0 over Pullman and 6-5 in nine innings against the NE 49ers from Chewelah, July 18. They followed July 20 with a 6-5 loss to Mt. Spokane and then a rematch with the 49ers and a 3-0 win.
Gonzaga Prep earned the top district seed with a 14-1 win over Mt. Spokane, July 21 at Avista Stadium. Mt. Spokane will be No. 2 with the Cannons No. 3.
