STA bus strikes child on bike

Injuries are non-life threatening

CHENEY – Last Thursday morning, a Spokane Transit Authority bus collided with a 12-year-old boy riding his bike.

The accident resulting in the child being transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Police Department Interim Chief, Rick Begthol, said the boy was riding his bicycle when he was hit.

The child may have a broken arm, Begthol said, but there was no further update on his condition.

Emergency response teams from the city fire and police departments swiftly arrived at the scene near Mike McKeehan Way at approximately 11:40 a.m.

Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Key aspects of the investigation include determining whether any traffic laws were violated and identifying any potential contributing factors from either the cyclist or the bus driver.

Both the Spokane Transit Authority and local law enforcement are cooperating closely to gather witness statements and review available surveillance footage from nearby cameras.
