CrownStrike affected businesses
CHENEY – A global technology outage delayed or canceled over 3,000 flights worldwide, affecting Spokane international airport and businesses across the region.
The outage caused by faulty update deployed by the Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike to computers running Microsoft Windows, left a wake of confusion and frustration for workers and travelers at the Spokane International Airport, Friday.
Flight status boards at Spokane Airport have been changing all night and throughout the morning as airlines work to get people to their destinations.
The outage caused airlines to lose access to check-in and booking services on computers in which caused delays.
MultiCare Rockwood Clinic was affected Friday morning. They will reschedule all those appointments between 7 to 9 a.m. for a later date. Walk-ins were not affected. According to an online post, they were not able to do their work, so they went home for the day.
According to CrowdStrike officials on Saturday, they had a bad “Sensor configuration update” in its Falcon Cybersecurity platform which was to blame for a massive global computer outage. The disastrous patch knocked approximately 8.5 million Windows devices offline paralyzing airlines, hospitals and financial institutions.
