Parks and Recreation kicks off summer movies and concerts

CHENEY – Last Wednesday evening, the city Parks and Recreation Department launched its summer series of movies and concerts at the park.

The first event featured the big band sounds of the Lilac City Community Band, marking the start of the concert series. Every Wednesday evening until Aug. 7, the city will host a different band, providing a diverse range of musical genres for the community to enjoy.

The next concert is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. July 17, featuring the Swing and Country band Plaid Cat.

Following that, the lineup includes a Celtic Rock band called Free Whiskey, a Jazz and Pop ensemble Quintetto Dolcetto, an Electric Blues band, and concludes Aug. 7 with the classic rock band Kosta La Vista.

All concerts will begin at 6:30 p.m.

On the movie front, the city will screen The Little Mermaid this Friday, kicking off a series of weekly movie nights every Friday until Aug. 9. The upcoming movies include Elemental, Barbie, Hook and Wish.

Each movie will start at sundown, approximately 9 p.m.

Concessions will be available.
