Fireworks may be banned, but not in Airway Heights

With some restrictions, you can celebrate 4th of July

Fireworks are banned in Spokane County, with exceptions for a few areas such as Airway Heights, in accordance with the Airway Heights municipal code.

According to the municipal code, fireworks can only be lit on private property within the city limits under safe measures. This can only be done between the hours of 8 p.m. to midnight.

If someone wants to sell fireworks, they need to obtain a permit and only be allowed to sell fireworks such as helicopters, aerials, spinners, Roman candles, mines and sparklers. Others are illegal to sell or light within city limits, according to municipal 15.12.010 of the City of Airway Heights.

The Airway Heights Fire Chief serves as the final authority on this issue, ensuring compliance and safety with the community according to their city code.

Airway Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars have a Fireworks stand next to Stimson Contractors and sell them legally to the public. Periodically, the fire department makes periodic inspections.

If you don't want to have a fireworks display at your home, there is another alternative. Northern Quest Resort and Casino will be hosting an Independence Day Extravaganza starting at 4 p.m. at their live outdoor venue.

Many activities are leading up to the main event, a drone and fireworks display at 10 p.m.

Upon the opening of the doors, there will be several activities for the kids such as bouncy houses, cornhole, music, water activities and more. Also, food, drinks and a magic show are added to the event.

Before the Fireworks, a celebration is scheduled to recognize members of the Kalispel Tribe and their employees who served in the military. The national anthem will be performed in Salish, the language of the Kalispel.
