Celebrate 4th of July in Airway Heights

AIRWAY HEIGHTS — Get ready for a rip-roaring Independence Day celebration.

Northern Quest Resort and Casino will be hosting its annual Independence Day Extravaganza starting at 4 p.m.

Many activities are leading up to the main event, a drone and fireworks display at 10 p.m.

There will be several activities for children, such as bouncy houses. In addition, there will be cornhole, live music, water activities and more.

A magic show is also includeded to the event at the casino’s outdoor venue, 100 N. Hayford Road.

Before the Fireworks, a celebration is scheduled to recognize members of the Kalispel Tribe and employees who served in the military.

The National Anthem will be performed in Salish, the language of the Kalispel.

If you’re not into the crowd, but still want to celebrate America’s birthday, personal fireworks are available and can be lit on private property in the city.

The city limits the discharge of fireworks to 8 p.m. to midnight on Thursday, July 4.

The Airway Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars post has a fireworks stand in the 11500 block of West Sunset Highway.

Personal fireworks available there include ground bloom flowers, small fountains, snakes and even sparklers.

Airway Heights, Medical Lake and Spangle all allow for fireworks to be discharged legally in the city. But only those fireworks authorized by the Washington State Patrol chief may be used.

That means many of the fireworks sold by tribal members on reservations are illegal to posess and use.
