Chain-wrapped club attack ends in arrests

Homeless men beat the victim on June 1

SPOKANE VALLEY - Two homeless men were booked into the Spokane County Jail last week after allegedly beating a man with a chain-wrapped club.

Armando Guerro-Lopez, 44, and Richard Corrales, 36, were both booked into the jail for first-degree robbery.

The men were being held on $500,000 bail, set by Superior Court Commissioner Eugene Cruz.

Their arrest stems from a June 1 attack in a parking lot in the 5600 block of East Sprague Avenue.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred about 11:05 a.m..

Deputies responded to several calls of a man being assaulted with a bat, records show. Witnesses described the suspects, noting they were leaving on bicycles.

Deputies located and detained Guerro-Lopez and Corrales, based on the descirptions, records show.

Deputies then talked with the victim, another homeless man, records show. The victim said he was atthe location to try to buy drugs before Guerror-Lopez and Corrales arrived on bicycles.

The two suspects began yelling at the victim and demanding money, records show. The suspects then tried to take the victim's belongings.

When they didn't get what they wanted, they began hittng him with a chain-wrapped club, records show, noting the victim was also punched by Corrales.

The suspects were eventually able to take $23 in cash, an EBT card, bus pass and a gold ring from the victim, records show.
