Grant boosts citys electric vehicle plan
CHENEY – At the recent City Council meeting on May 28, the council members unanimously approved Resolution F-255, authorizing the mayor to sign an acceptance of funding agreement with the Spokane Regional Transportation Council (SRTC) for the purchase of electric vehicles and a charging station.
During the meeting, Public Works Director Todd Ableman outlined the details of the agreement, stating, “This is the agreement for two types of funding for us to purchase electric vehicles. Right now, we’re looking at Ford Lightening Trucks to purchase, also A Mach E with some of that leftover money.” He also mentioned, “We’re also proposing a carport with solar panels on top.”
Ableman further explained the timeline, saying, “So that proposal went into SRTC – the board this last meeting, and now we’re going through the process to put it on the amendment for the Transportation Improvement Plan that will be publicized at the end of June, and then by the time the agreements are out, we’re probably talking about mid-August before we get an actual funding agreement from SRTC.”
The funding, totaling $350,685, comes from the Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) and Carbon Reduction Program (CRP) administered by the SRTC. According to a letter addressed to Mayor Chris Grover from the SRTC, the City of Cheney will receive $113,126 from the STBG program and $237,559 from the CRP.
