Valley Christain's boys varsity track and field team received the Washington Interscholastic Activities Assocation Academic State Championship award Saturday, May 25, at the state 1B/2B/1A track meet at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima. The 14-member team received the award for maintaining a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.763. The team is coached by Caleb Malen. The only other Spokane Valley-area team to win an academic state title was the Central Valley boys golf team, which won the 4A division with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.735.
