CHENEY – School Board member Kelly Niccolls and Superintendent Ben Ferney presented an overview of the district’s strategic plan during a May 22 meeting.
The strategic plan, developed by Ferney and Nicholls is based on six criteria.
“It’s based on the idea of continuous improvement,” Ferney said.
Community input played a role in shaping the strategic plan, with surveys, focus groups, and feedback sessions guiding the development process, he said.
Ferney emphasized the importance of community engagement, stating, “We brought back a draft, there were two rounds of feedback with stakeholders.”
The strategic plan prioritizes six key areas, including ensuring a safe and caring learning environment, enhancing physical safety, and promoting student well-being. Each priority is accompanied by specific goals and progress monitoring measures.
Quarterly progress reports and annual checks will ensure transparency and accountability in the implementation of the strategic plan. Ferney reiterated the importance of ongoing communication and feedback from community partners.
The strategic plan aims to make Cheney Public Schools an exemplary district known for its commitment to hands-on learning and continuous improvement.
Ferney stressed the district’s focus on growth outcomes and transparency in communication, saying, “We need to show growth outcomes, here’s the evidence of how they’re learning.”
As the district moves forward with the strategic plan, community involvement and feedback will remain essential.
Nichols underlined the importance of gathering feedback from families.
“We need feedback from families on what’s working and not working,” he said.
