Cooper suspends campaign

Mayor wants to prioritize Medical Lake

MEDICAL LAKE – Terri Cooper announced on May 10 that she is suspending her campaign for Washington State's 5th Congressional District.

After weeks of campaigning, Cooper cited her commitment to her local community and ongoing recovery efforts from the Gray Road and Elk fires as reasons for her decision.

"My priority has always been, and still remains, my local community of Medical Lake," Cooper said in the news release. "In light of all the unfinished business and the aftermath of the Gray Road and Elk fires, I can't in good conscience leave my post as Mayor and the continued fire recovery efforts of the Spokane region."

Cooper, who is currently the Mayor of Medical Lake, launched her campaign for Congress with a focus on fairness in policy, truth in relationships, and servant leadership. She was hoping to fill the seat left by Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers, with a crowded field of five democratic candidates and six republican candidates.

"It's regular hard-working people who make up the heart and soul of this district," she stated. "It's important that these people have their voices heard and be represented in Washington, D.C. I've done my best to bring their issues to the forefront of the discussion, and I'll continue to contend for their place at the table."

In her statement, Cooper emphasized the need for unity and practical solutions over partisan extremes.
