$2 million broadband construction approved

OLYMPIA – The south Spokane County communities of Waverly, Spangle and Fairfield are set to receive a boost in broadband access thanks to the recent approval of $21 million in Washington State Public Works Board grants.

Announced following the board’s May 3, meeting, the funds will support 10 projects across eight counties, aiming to connect nearly 6,000 previously unserved broadband locations.

Among the approved projects is the “South Spokane County Rural Towns Open Access Mid-mile Connectivity” initiative, which will see $2 million allocated for the design and construction of approximately 21 miles of fiber optic infrastructure.

This effort specifically targets 500 underserved premises in Spangle, Waverly and Fairfield.

Chairwoman Kathryn A. Gardow expressed pride in the board’s commitment to supporting critical infrastructure, noting the importance of reliable broadband access for enhancing the quality of life for all Washingtonians.
