FISHING

Fisherman’s breakfast on tap

MEDICAL LAKE – The annual Fisherman’s breakfast will take place this Saturday, April 27, at Spokane County Fire Station No. 311.

Firefighters will provide eggs, sausage, pancakes and bacon from 5 a.m. to noon; proceeds benefit the volunteer fire association.

The annual event corresponds with the opening day of lowland lake fishing season.

FOOTBALL

Red-White game set for Friday

CHENEY — Eastern Washington University’s football team finishes its spring practice schedule with the Red-White game this Friday at Roos Field.

Kickoff will be at 6 p.m.

The game is free and open to the public to attend.

Meyer elected to Hall of Fame

FARMIGTON, Utah — He has always been an Eagle legend, but now former Eastern Washington Univesity quarterback Erik Meyer earns an honor at the conference level.

Meyer was elected to the Big Sky Conference Hall of Fame on April 18, announced by the conference office.

The Big Sky Hall of Fame ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. July 20 at Northern Quest Resort and Casino in Airway Heights.

GOLF

Cheney golfs at Indian Canyon

SPOKANE — Ryan Howe shot a three-over-par 72 and finished tied for sixth in an April 22 Greater Spokane League golf match at Indian Canyon.

Justin Krasselt was seven-over and finished t14, Brayden Anderson shot 11-over to finish 28 and Kyren Fleming was 12-over and 29th.

Gonzaga Prep and Lewis and Clark tied for first with a team score of plus-21 while Cheney had a team score of plus-33.

“There were some really challenging pin placements and our boys battled through the day,” head coach Justin Fayant wrote in an email.

Medical Lake wins at Deer Park

DEER PARK — Led by a pair of players with personal best scores, the Medical Lake girls won a Northeast A League golf match at Deer Park, April 15.

Kali Rowe scored 86 and Madi Griffis followed with an 87 for ML with both Madi Spring (94) and Kristen Dickey (103) had their best rounds ever.

Brooklynn DeVore (108) and Trinity Schull (123) rounded out the team scores.

SOCCER

Cheney snaps losing streak

CHENEY — The Blackhawks boys soccer team ended a six-game losing streak following a 2-1 Greater Spokane League soccer win over University, April 19 at home.

Goals from Branson Kennicutt in the 61st minute, followed by Oliver Cagle’s score at 75 minutes rallied Cheney (2-5 GSL, 6-8 overall) from a 1-0 halftime deficit. Jackson Reagan earned the win in goal making three saves.

“It was great to get the win, especially in a comeback fashion,” head coach Noah Prophet wrote in an email. “Now we can focus on the last two games of the season, celebrate our seniors on Friday, and be ready for the post season.”

Cheney faced Lewis and Clark (5-2, 10-2-1) April 24 and then closes out regular season play hosting Gonzaga Prep (2-5, 4-8), April 26.

TRACK

Eagles ready for championships

CHENEY — Eastern competes in its final two meets of the regular season before the Big Sky Championships in Bozeman, Mont. in two weeks (May 8-11). EWU sends one group to the Oregon State High Performance Meet for two days in Corvallis, Ore. Another group heads to Tucson, Ariz. for the Desert Heat Classic, hosted by University of Arizona.

The Eagles competed at the Cougar Classic last Saturday (4/20), winning multiple events in Pullman. Dyvhine Fonoti (Hammer Throw), Nattie Ruzauskas (1500m) and Lucas Couron (Pole Vault) earned first place in their respective events.
