Blackhawks snap losing streak

CHENEY - The Blackhawks scored five runs in their opening at-bat on the way to an 11-3 Greater Spokane League win over University that snapped Cheney's six-game losing streak.

Notable for the Blackhawks were Carter McPherson who smacked a triple and had a pair of RBIs, plus pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win.

Miles Hoover had a pair of hits and Tate Heuschkel a hit and three RBIs.

Cheney's next home game is April 19 against Ridgeline following an April 18 road game at Ridgeline in Liberty Lake.

Lancers sweep winless Broncos

SPANGLE - The Liberty Lancers boys baseball team swept Lind-Ritzville/Sprague in a doubleheader April 9.

The Lancers won the opener, 19-9, and the closer, 19-2.

Thomas Domrese led the Lancers at bat in Game 1 and J.J. Hodl led them in Game 2.

Hot shooting for Cheney golfers

SPOKANE - Cheney's youthful boys golf team scored another solid finish with a second place April 15 in a Greater Spokane League match at Downriver Golf Course.

The Blackhawks' Top 4 golfers - all freshmen - each shot in the 70s, reported head coach Justin Fayant.

Ryan Howe finished tied for sixth at plus-3.

Justin Krasselt and Blake Kernen finished tied for 11th at plus-4, while Brayden Anderson in a tie for 15th at plus-6.

Rudy, Grubaugh lead Cardinals

MEDICAL LAKE - Kaden Rudy scored the game's first five goals as Medical Lake breezed past Colville, 7-0, in an April 13 Northeast A League contest.

Alex Grubaugh earned the shutout for the Cardinals making six saves. Medical Lake improved to 4-3 in league play and 6-6 overall.

Medical Lake played at Northwest Christian (Colbert) on April 16 and are home against Newport on April 18 and Colville on April 19.

Both games start at 4 p.m.

TENNIS

Cardinal boys win two-of-three

MEDICAL LAKE - The local tennis played three matches last week with the boys capturing two-of-three while the girls went winless April 10.

Head Coach Matt Houn said the Cardinals hosted Deer Park, where the boys won 3-2 and the girls lost 0-5. The wins from the boys all came from doubles.

The following day, Cardinals resumed a postponed March contest at Newport. The boys lost 2-3 and the girls lost 1-4.

The team traveled April 15 to Nine Mile Falls to place Lakeside, where the boys won 3-2 while the girls lost 2-3.
