Man back in jail a day after being released

LATAH VALLEY — A man arrested and released following a standoff last week is back in the Spokane County Jail.

Cody D. Harris, 38, is being held on $1,500 bail after being arrested for first-degree criminal mischief on Tuesday, March 26.

His return to jail came only a day after he was released from the Spokane County Jail following a March 22 incident at a ranch at 7500 S. Farm Road, located between Spokane and Marshall in the Latah Valley area.

Harris was initially arrested for residential burglary and third-degree theft after an hours-long standoff.

Deputies were called to the location at about 5:05 p.m. after he called through a dog door and entered a woman’s home and refused to leave, records show. The woman told him to leave, but he became irate and refused.

Afraid for her safety, the woman fled her home and called 911, records show. Arriving deputies spotted Harris in the ranch guesthouse, but he refused to obey commands to exit the building.

Deputies obtained an arrest warrant and called in the SWAT team. Harris surrendered at about 12:20 a.m. March 23.
