Trump, Biden very easily tops others

SPOKANE — More Spokane County voters turned out in the March 12 presidential primary election to support Donald J. Trump than any other candidate.

Election results were certified March 22 and forwarded to the state.

In Spokane County, a total of 129,324 ballots were cast by voters; former President Trump received 45.4% of the total.

Overall turnout was 35.2%, county election officials said.

Looking at the breakdown by party, Trump dominated the Republican field; he received 58,750 votes, or 76.1% of all Republican votes cast.

Nikki Haley was in a distant second-place, having received only 14,058 votes, or 18.2%. Other Republicans receiving votes included Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, 1,980 votes; former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, 792 votes; and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, 728 votes.

On the Democrat side, incumbent President Joseph R. Biden Jr. receive 44,704 votes to lead his party with 84.7%. But 6.3% of Democrats voted “uncommitted,” meaning they didn’t currently support a party candidate.

Dean Phillips was in second-place among county Democrats, with 1,932 votes, or 3.7%, followed by Marianne Williamson with 1,736 votes, or 3.3%.

Statewide, 1,707,753 voters cast ballots in the primary election, for a turnout of 35.3%.

As in Spokane County, Trump dominated the Republican party field while Biden dominated the Democrat field.
