FFA students teach youngsters about cows

CHENEY – Cheney High School's FFA club embarked on an educational initiative, visiting Betz Elementary to impart knowledge about cows to students in kindergarten through second-grade March 26.

In Ms. Marcotte's first-grade class, FFA member Zachary Cox led a presentation on the origins of cows from around the world. C

ox engaged the students by asking, "Has anyone pet a cow? Or seen one at a festival?" The room buzzed with excitement as several eager first graders raised their hands.

The interactive session continued as the children were shown pictures of various cow breeds and tasked with matching them to their respective countries on a map. The journey began with India, home to the brahman cow distinguished by its large ears reminiscent of an elephant and short fur.

Following this exploration, the students divided into two groups for further discussion. One group delved into the differences between dairy and beef cows, while the other group explored the diverse byproducts derived from cows.

The initiative not only provided valuable insight into the world of agriculture but also fostered a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the role of cows in our daily lives.
