Wanted Spokane man arrested in Newport for four felony warrants

NEWPORT – David L. Cato, aged 38, was apprehended on March 14 in Newport, Washington, following a widespread public response to authorities seeking information on the whereabouts of the armed and dangerous fugitive.

The manhunt was initiated on March 1 after authorities issued a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Cato, who is sought on four felony warrants, three of which originate from Spokane County. Among the charges leveled against him are first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, and attempting to elude law enforcement.

On March 14, around 1:00 am, law enforcement identified a location in Newport where Cato was believed to be hiding.

Leveraging additional intelligence, the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force devised a strategy to approach the location and effect Cato’s arrest in a safe manner. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and other units were summoned to provide assistance.

Cato surrendered without resistance and was taken into custody around 4:45 am. He was subsequently booked into the Pend Oreille County Jail to answer for the four felony arrest warrants against him.
