Fugitive of three years arrested in Cheney

Arkansas man was on the lamb in Washington State

CHENEY – Walter Roy Sexton was apprehended at a residence near 3rd Street in Cheney on March 21, following a collaborative effort by the U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, alongside Idaho Fish and Game, the Cheney Police Department, and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

Sexton, a convicted felon, had purportedly been evading law enforcement for over three years, allegedly fleeing Conway, Arkansas, upon learning of an ongoing investigation into multiple allegations of sexual assault against him.

After discovering an outstanding arrest warrant for second-degree sexual assault from Faulkner County Circuit Court, Arkansas, Idaho Fish and Game officers joined forces with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and apprehend Sexton. The Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force obtained intelligence indicating Sexton's presence at the Cheney residence and effected his arrest without resistance.

One of the victims' mothers expressed gratitude towards the U.S. Marshals for providing closure after a prolonged three-and-a-half-year ordeal.

"While we are not the only victims, we, along with our families, would like to thank the U.S. Marshals for bringing us closure. We want all victims out there to know, ‘Never give up.’ We look forward to justice being served," she remarked.

Sexton was subsequently transported and booked into Spokane County Jail pending extradition.
