Airway Heights receives federal funding

$1.8 million awarded for U.S. 2 project

AIRWAY HEIGHTS — In a move to address traffic congestion, the city recently celebrated the acquisition of federal funding for the much-anticipated U.S. Highway 2 project.

Heather Trautman, the principal city planner, unveiled the development during the City Council on March 18.

“Securing $1.8 million from the federal government is a major win for our community,” Trautman said.

Trautman then revealed an additional $300,000 allocation from the state Department of Transportation, further bolstering the resources at Airway Heights’ disposal for the U.S. Highway 2 project.

The work is expected to include roundabouts and pedestrian improvements between Lundstrom and Lawson streets, along U.S. Highway 2..

Trautman previously said the plans promise to reshape the community’s central business district.
