BOISE, Idaho — The Eastern Washington men's basketball team was upended in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Tournament for the second-straight season on Sunday in Boise, losing to the No. 10 seed Sacramento State Hornets, 74-69.
The Eagles entered the tournament as the regular season champions and top seed, just as they did last year, and finished with a 21-11 overall record. Eastern fell in similar fashion last season, losing their first game to No. 8 Northern Arizona.
Sacramento State led wire-to-wire in the first half, pushing their advantage out to as much as 10 at 17-7.
Eastern took their first lead of the game at 39-38 on a Jake Kyman three-pointer just under two minutes into the second half.
Cedrick Coward's 22 points led a trio of Eagles in double figures. Casey Jones (14) and Ethan Price (11) were others.
Eastern also struggled to control the ball, turning it over 15 times. Perhaps most glaring deficiency was the lack of outside shooting, as the Eagles finished 6-for-26 from beyond the 3-point line (23.1%) including 2-for-13 in the second half.
