Babysitter sentenced in molestation

Local man gets 100 months in prison

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – A local man who provided babysitting services has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison in connection with multiple child molestation cases.

Ronald R. Trujillo, 60, was sentenced last week in Spokane County Superior Court to 100 months in prison following his acceptance of a plea deal and admission of guilt to four counts of child molestation, court records show.

The investigation into Trujillo’s actions commenced in January 2022 after a child under his care revealed they had been subjected to inappropriate touching, records show. The subsequent investigation revealed two additional victims, who had also been subjected to sexual abuse by Trujillo during his previous babysitting engagements.

Furthermore, an adult came forward during the investigation, reporting Trujillo had assaulted them while they were still younger than 18, records show.

However, due to the statute of limitations, charges could not be filed in that instance.

Trujillo’s legal troubles exacerbated after his December 2022 court appearance.

He violated the terms of his release pending trial by residing with minor children, contravening orders prohibiting contact with individuals under 18, court records show.

Moreover, he relocated from the address provided to the court.

A nationwide-extraditable warrant was issued for Trujillo’s arrest, leading to his apprehension several days later by New Mexico authorities, records show. To facilitate Trujillo’s extradition, two Airway Heights police detectives flew to New Mexico.

Following his extradition, Trujillo was booked into the Spokane County Jail, where he remained in custody until his sentencing.

Trujillo is mandated to register as a sex offender, in accordance with statutory requirements.
