Driver airlifted after crash

Deputies say alcohol is a factor

WILLIAMS LAKE — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspected drunken-driving crash March 3 on Mullinix Road.

The crash occurred about 4:50 p.m. near West Williams Lake Road, according to the Sheriff’s Office, which failed to release the names of the individuals involved.

According to the report, a man was airlifted to an area hospital, where he remained at press time in stable condition. He was determined to be one of the drivers involved.

The report said the man was northbound in a Mercury on South Mullinix Road when he left the roadway, re-entered and was struck by a Ford F250 truck driven by a second northbound driver.

“Deputies observed several alcoholic beverage cans inside the sedan,” the report said of the Mercury.

The pickup struck the back of the Mercury, the report said. The pickup driver was not injured.

“Believing the driver of the Mercury was impaired at the time of the incident, investigators at the hospital requested and were granted a search warrant to obtain a sample of the driver’s blood for testing, and impairment is believed to be a factor in this crash,” the report said.

The Cheney Free Press has filed a public records request to obtain more specific information on the crash, including the drivers’ names.
