Airway Heights approves grant application

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The city Planning Commission voted 6-1 to approve plans for the expansion of the West Prairie Mobile Home Park to provide water services there.

During a recent City Council meeting, discussions centered around applying for feasibility grants to support the construction and infrastructure necessary for expanding the mobile home park.

With 137 mobile homes under consideration, the project aims to address public health and safety concerns while providing affordable housing.

However, concerns were raised regarding utility services and infrastructure expansion to accommodate the proposed development.

City officials acknowledged the need for collaborative efforts with neighboring jurisdictions to ensure adequate water and utility services.

“Is there anything we can do to mitigate the cost of this?” Councilman Davin Perry said. “We can’t do it to the detriment of constituents.”

“We don’t have the ability to charge people different rates if they’re out of the city,” Councilman Kevin Richey added.

“We can play around with different rate structures, but it needs to be equitable, it can’t be arbitrary,” said Kevin Anderson. “If it’s a legitimate reason to cost more to a certain customer class, we can charge them more.”

It passed, 6-1, with one abstention.
