CHENEY — The City Council on Feb. 13 unanimously approved installation of a $300,000 aluminum reservoir lid for the city’s in-ground water reservoir.
Public Works Director Todd Ableman told the council the lid was necessary as part of water system upgrades for the tank located between North Ninth and 10th Streets, south of Oakland Street.
“We need to get going with the reservoir,” he said.
Other upgrades discussed included specifications regarding reservoir walls, with an emphasis on an 8-inch requirement. Additionally, there was discourse on a second portion demolition change order, with council members deliberating on air-quality considerations.
“Given the nature of what we’re looking at – I think it’s fair,” Ableman said.
The consensus echoed the understanding of the project’s long-term implications, with deliberations centering on the water tank’s longevity.
“If this tank could last 30-50 more years,” Ableman said that would be ideal.
A clear timeline emerged from the discussions, with a collective goal to have the reservoir operational by June.
Councilman Vincent Barthels succinctly summarized the sentiment, stating, “It is what it is.”
Councilwoman Teresa Overhauser echoed similar sentiments, drawing attention to prior discussions within the finance committee.
“We also discussed this in finance, we also decided ‘it is what it is,’” Overhauser remarked.
With a motion to approve on the table, the measure passed unanimously.
