Five adults hospitalized after head on collision

SPOKANE – In an event on Wednesday, January 24, five adults were hospitalized following a head-on collision between an Acura and a semi-truck on Bigelow Gulch. The incident occurred around 5:30 am when the westbound semi-truck crossed the centerline, resulting in a collision with the Acura.

Upon arrival, deputies and Spokane County Fire District 9 Firefighters provided immediate medical attention, leading to the closure of the roadway to manage traffic. The Acura’s occupants were rushed to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, and sadly, one of them succumbed to their injuries, as confirmed by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The two individuals in the semi-truck were also taken to the hospital for evaluation, with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. Traffic Unit Investigators responded to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the deceased individual’s name and the manner of death at an appropriate time. The closure of Bigelow Gulch at Weile in both directions was in effect during the investigation.
