John Gerald Alent

John Gerald Alent, self-proclaimed alias of "Oh Mighty One," passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family on Jan. 11, 2024.

He succumbed to cancer after an almost eight-year battle at the age of 74 years. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Brenda, and their five children Caline (Keith) McLaughlin, Paladin, Travis, Joshua (Cari), and Chelsea (Austin) Pea. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, his six siblings, of whom he was the oldest, and his dad jokes – Lots of them. John was born of Earl and Elizabeth Alent of Mich. He spent his childhood in the Detroit area, causing much chaos and mischief.

At 18, John joined the Air Force and soon after was sent to Vietnam during the war. He spent 21 years serving in the USAF and retired at the rank of Senior Master Seargent.

Upon retiring in 1989, John went back to school and earned a degree and license as a Physical Therapist. He worked as a PT for about 25 years, the last 12 years of which working for the hospital in Davenport, Wash. John enjoyed fishing, camping (especially at Lake Roosevelt), playing the guitar, acting, attending movies, and RVing with Brenda. He loved to laugh and make others laugh and also knew how to give a good scare, which he did every chance he could.

John was devoted to his faith and served whole-heartedly in any capacity he was called to in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. John's favorite hymn was the Christmas song "I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day," particularly the third and fourth verses and the phrase:

"God is not dead nor doth he sleep. The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on Earth good will to men."

A memorial service is to be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 10405 W Melville Rd Cheney, WA 99004 on Friday Feb, 2, 2024 at 9 a.m.
