CHENEY – Three police officers and one dispatcher were awarded ‘life saving’ medals by the American National Police Hall of Fame on Dec. 23 and Jan. 11.
The Cheney Police Department announced officer Brad Deines, Ian Sauve, and Sgt. Austin Brantingham, along with dispatcher Lawrence Smith, earned the honor by providing crucial aid during a welfare check June 20, 2023.
According to Police Chief Rick Beghtol, the officers earned the award saving an individual during a suicide attempt.
“What we got was information that a person was trying to end their life,” Beghtol said.
“And the state they found him in, he was on his way to passing away. They were able to get him stabilized and transport him down to the hospital where he was saved.”
