Snow, cold to blanket area this weekend
CHENEY – With uncharacteristically warm, dry weather last month, winter is expected to finally hit this weekend
The National Weather Service is predicting the coldest temperatures so far this winter for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The cold comes after 2 inches of snow fell across much of the area from Friday night through Tuesday morning.
The snow was whipped by wind gusts of up to 45 mph Tuesday night.
That weather is ushering in a chance for snow to return.
“Anywhere from a few tenths to 2 inches,” National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Bodnar said Tuesday. “Then it’s going to start to get much colder as we go into Thursday night and Friday morning.”
Bodnar said the forecast is for 1-4 inches of snow tonight, Jan. 11. Tomorrow, temperatures will be dropping into the teens, with sub-zero wind chills.
“Look for those very cold temperatures to continue through the weekend and into next week,” he said, noting residents should expect daytime highs in the teens and overnight lows about zero. The coldest temperature is expected Friday night, as the low dips to minus-3.
The forecast calls for the daytime highs to climb back into the 20s starting next Tuesday.
