New Yoke's store taking shape

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – Eight months into construction and a new Yoke's Fresh Market is noticeably taking shape.

So far, Yoke's officials have declined to say much about the new store being built at 11450 W. 12th Ave.

But city records show permits applicaitons were filed May 16, 2023, with the city of Spokane to start construction of the Kalispel Yoke's Fresh Market here. Additional permit applications were filed in July.

Even though the store is being built here, permitting and inspection is being done through Spokane due to an interlocal agreement.

The 50,146-square-foot grocery store is being built on land owned by the Kalispel Tribe, but not part of the Kalispel reservation.

Valuations are not listed in the permitting paperwork.

"This project is outside the city limits, meaning that value should not be included in the construction valuations reported by the city," the city of Spokane's online documents show.

When complete, the store will have 229 parking spaces and charging stations for electric vehicles, records show.

Site drawings were initially done by Parametrix Engineering; company officials were unable to comment before press time.

According to Yoke's Vice President Scott Brower, a definitive opening date has yet to be set.

He also said a finalization date for planned roundabouts that wiill influence the opening date has yet to be set.

Yoke's already operates stores nearby in Airway Heights, Cheney and the Latah Valley on U.S. 195 near Marshall..
