Food distributed to needy Medical Lake residents

MEDICAL LAKE – Re*Imagine Medical Lake and Four Roots came together on Tuesday, Dec. 19, to give away boxes of fresh produce, dairy and meat sourced from local farmers to community residents.

“One of the main things people who’ve lost their homes to the fire complain about is the price of groceriesm,” Re*Imagine Medical Lake spokeswoman Gerri Johnson said. R”achel from Four Roots and I had been talking, and her organization distributes food throughout Spokane county.”

When asked how much was in each box, Johnson said: “It’s a manageable amount of food, whether you’re living in an apartment or an RV.

“We went and picked it up at Spokane Falls Community College. Sometimes Four Roots delivers it to us directly.”

More than 100 boxes were delivered this time.

“We still have a couple left. They’re staying in that cold walk-in cooler,” Johnson said. “I donate whatever I have left to the food bank which goes out on Fridays.

“We’ve been able to distribute every last box to our community members in need.”

When asked who can pick up a box, Johnson said, “Anyone. That’s the whole point. We wanna make sure there are no barriers.”
