Kyman named the Big Sky Player of the Week

FARMINGTON, Utah — Eastern Washington University guard Jake Kyman has been named Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Dec. 12.

Kyman paced the Eagles in their important 73-68 road win over the Air Force Falcons on Saturday, scoring a career-high 25 points for the second consecutive game.

The grad transfer sharpshooter shot 6-for-10 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc while converting 9-of-10 chances from the free throw line.

Kyman also scored 25 the week prior at USC.

Eastern men win streak

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — For the first time this season the Eastern Washington men have a winning streak following a 62-53 win over Cal Poly on the road, Dec. 18.

Combined with an earlier 103-34 rout of NAIA Portland Bible College the Eagles improved to 4-6 on the season.

Eastern, playing its eighth road game in non-conference play, got 15 points from Jake Kyman, while Ethan Price and Casey Jones added 10 apiece.

The rugged and rough contest saw 34 called personal fouls, 33 combined turnovers and just 41 total made field goals — between the two teams.

Against Portland Bible, Cedric Coward led all scorers with his third career double-double, posting 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Four other Eags reached double figures as Dane Erikstrup had 17, Ethan Price 14, Sebastian Hartman 13 and Casey Jones 12.

The Eagles have one more road game, a trip to Seattle to face Washington on Dec. 21 before hosting Portland State, Dec. 28 in the league opener at Reese Court.

Cal rallies to top Eastern

BERKELEY, Calf. — The road can be difficult at times and Eastern Washington women’s basketball experienced it on Friday morning. Eastern lost to Cal, 78-70, in Berkeley despite leading the Golden Bears after three quarters.

“It is disappointing to take a 15-point lead into the fourth quarter and lose this game,” head coach Joddie Gleason said.

Alexander connected with an early jumper to extend the Eagle lead to 61-46 in the fourth quarter. Cal began to whittle the lead down and take advantage of Eastern’s turnovers.

The Golden Bears then went on a 8-1 run to take the lead and 2:13 on the clock. EWU tied the score at 68 on another Alexander layup, but Cal ripped off another 8-0 run to take control of the game. They went on to defeat Eastern, 78-70.

Jacinta Buckley led the team with 16 points while Aaliyah Alexander added 13.

Eastern (6-3) to Las Vegas for the Vegas Holiday Hoops tournament and plays Presbyterian, Dec. 21 and Wyoming the following day.
