One arrested, one injured in crash

SPOKANE VALLEY – One person was hurt and one arrested in a DUI-related crash Dec. 19 on Pines Street, also known as state Highway 27.

Oleg A. Dyfort, 46, of Spokane is facing a charge of vehicular assault in a head-on crash that occurred on Pines Avenue at 12:17 p.m.

Meanwhile, Connie L. Russell, 65, of Spokane, was injured and transported to Holy Family Hospital.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Dyfort was northbound on Pines Street in a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado at the time of the crash. Russell was southbound in a 2012 Toyota Rav4.

Dyfort’s vehicle crossed the centerline and hit Russell’s head on near East Buckey Avenue, the patrol reported.

Dyfort was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the patrol reported, noting it did not know if Russell was buckled in.

The patrol said the crash is DUI related and that Dyfort is being charged with vehicular assault.

Both vehicles were destroyed in the crash.
