CHENEY – The Christmas Gifts for Cheney Children program has had another successful year.
According to Cheney Outreach Center Executive Director Diana Davis, the program for 25 years.
Davis said she is seeing some changes in community needs.
The goal each year is to gather enough donations to help children in low-income families receive Christmas gifts when they might not have the opportunity otherwise, she said.
Volunteers helped provide presents for 21 children this year, Davis said. That matches the number from 2022.
Two years ago, the group handed out gifts to 175 children. On the other side of the coin, volunteers have seen a reduction in donations.
“We have seen a decrease in our funding this year,” Davis said. “Part of that reasoning is because everything simply costs more and people may not have as much to give.
“Cheney Outreach does appreciate the local business and community donors though, because without them this wouldn’t even be possible.”
The program has been successful in terms of having volunteers though, Davis said, noting a lot of people sign ed up to give their time this year.
According to Davis, this year’s program was a success, even with the numbers changing.
“Overall, the best part about this is simply being able to help someone that is in a less fortunate situation,” Davis said.
The goal for next year is to increase the number of donations to meet increasing demand, she said.
