Several crashes during snow storm
SPOKANE – The recent weather has impacted the region's traffic, and recent heavy snowfall has given way to rain and warmer temperatures for this week.
According to Steven Van Horn, a general forecaster at the Spokane branch of the National Weather Service, their initial focus was on the snowfall.
Reports indicated a substantial accumulation of 6-8 inches in the Cheney and Airway Heights vicinity. Residents are advised to be mindful of the altered terrain and potential hazards associated with the recent snow.
Van Horn proceeded to outline projections for the coming week. Anticipating an atmospheric weather event, he foresees a notable increase in temperatures, ushering in a period of rainfall.
Expectations hover around an inch to an inch and three-quarters, persisting from the present through Wednesday. Additionally, the heightened moisture content may result in localized fog, potentially impacting visibility.
Addressing potential concerns, Van Horn clarified that immediate traffic issues are not of paramount concern.
However, he highlighted the possibility of standing water in areas with suboptimal drainage. The combined effect of melting snow and ongoing rainfall may impede efficient drainage, necessitating vigilance among commuters.
Other traffic issues have come about from the moisture freezing on the roads overnight in some areas. This has caused some vehicle slide-offs in the West Plains.
