Runners show up in a variety of costumes

CHENEY - On the brisk Thanksgiving Day morning, hundreds of eager participants from Cheney, Medical Lake, Sprague, Davenport and beyond took to the streets for the annual Turkey Trot, a lively 5K run that has become a beloved community tradition.

The Turkey Trot, which kicked off at 9 a.m. from Cheney High School, served as a unifying force for the region, bringing together residents from various communities to celebrate the holiday with a healthy dose of exercise and community spirit.

Dressed in a colorful array of costumes ranging from turkeys and bananas to Pringles cans, participants added a festive flair to the event showcasing the community's creativity and enthusiasm. The chilly temperatures did little to deter the spirited crowd as they filled the streets, creating a lively atmosphere that echoed with laughter and camaraderie.

Notably, furry companions joined the festivities as well, with many participants bringing their dogs, adorned in equally festive costumes. The sight of four-legged friends trotting alongside their human counterparts added an extra layer of charm to the event.

Upon registration, participants were given specially designed Turkey Trot shirts, creating a sea of unity among the diverse group of runners.

Following the energetic run, participants were rewarded with more than just a sense of accomplishment.

A hot Thanksgiving meal awaited them, providing a well-deserved feast to refuel after the run. The post-run gathering allowed participants to share stories, laughter, and the joy of a communal celebration.

The Turkey Trot has evolved into more than just a run; it has become a symbol of community spirit and togetherness according to organizers.

In a year marked by challenges, the Turkey Trot proved once again that community bonds remain strong. As residents from different corners of the region came together to run, laugh and celebrate.
