CHENEY — The Walla Walla Blue Devils made the most of their two-and-one-half hour, 140-mile journey to Tom Oswald Field, Nov. 2.
In a cross-over football game between a pair of winless programs played on a soggy field and with fog making visibility a challenge, Walla Walla went home with a 42-13 win largely fueled by its passing attack.
The Blue Devils (1-9) from the Mid-Columbia Conference got a six-touchdown performance from quarterback Rayden Reibel as he completed 18-of-24 passes for 348 yards. Nine of those connections went to Carter Shivell for two scores.
After spotting Walla Walla a 15-0 lead, Cheney (0-10) briefly closed the gap with a 4-yard run by Sam Coffin. But the Blue Devils tacked on two more scores, one for 70 yards on a Reibel to Evan King pass and run for 70 yards and led 29-7 at halftime.
Kordell Laher closed out Cheney scoring with his 20-yard catch on a Coffin pass in the fourth quarter.
Ashton Schwendiman led the Blackhawks with 45 yards on 14 carries while Laher had five receptions for 45 yards. Walla Walla outgained Cheney 479 to 192 in total yards.
