Rick Freier poised to win commissioner seat

SPOKANE VALLEY – After the first day of ballot counting in the November 7th election, a local man has taken the lead in the race for the Spokane Valley Fire District Commissioner No. 5 position.

Rick Freier surged to victory with 12,617 votes, at 66.95% of the total. His opponent, George Orr, came in with 6,144, 32.6%.

For Freier, this marked a significant milestone in his life as he confessed, “It’s my first time running for anything, figuring out the paperwork and process, and finding out how expensive signs can be. It was humbling to hear someone tell you they voted for you.”

Freier further shared his astonishment at the overwhelming support he received during the campaign, saying, “It was a surprise to me. It was quite neat, the way people supported me. I’ll tell you I won’t forget it; it was the coolest thing.”

George Orr was unavailable to comment on Tuesday evening.

Out of the 92,774 ballots mailed to registered voters, the Spokane County Auditor’s Office has received 20,094.

Tuesday evening marked a voter turnout of 21.66%, but this is anticipated to rise as additional ballots are processed in the upcoming days.
