Central Valley School Districts cutting it close

SPOKANE VALLEY – Following the initial day of ballot counting in the November 7th election, Central Valley residents have witnessed a tight race among local candidates vying for crucial School District Director positions. The outcomes have left the community engaged and anticipating the final results.

Central Valley District Director 1

In the competition for School District Director No. 1, Cindy McMullen has taken a narrow lead with 7,892 votes, representing 52.44% of the total. Her opponent, Jeff Brooks, secured 7,124 votes, accounting for 47.34% of the vote.

“At this point I am cautiously optimistic,” said Cindy, mentioning the closeness of the race.

She emphasized the importance of the students, saying, “I just want to thank the voters for coming out and making their choice known. It was a contentious election. But the important thing is to do what’s right for our students.”

Jeff Brooks could not be reached for comment on Tuesday night.

Central Valley District Director 3

In the race for School District Director No. 3, Debra L. Long took the lead with 7,618 votes, securing 50.60% of the total. Her opponent, Stephanie Jerdon, garnered 7,398 votes, accounting for 49.14% of the vote.

The race remains close, as Jerdon expressed, “I’m ahead at the moment, not by much, waiting for the recount, it’s still in the air.”

“We just want all opportunities for all children,” said Stephanie about her motivation for running. “Our goal is to make a difference in their life.”

Stephanie Jordan was not available to make a comment on November 7.

Central Valley District Director 4

As of November 7, Anniece Barker just inched over the halfway mark with 7,586 votes, constituting 50.51% of the total vote. Keith L. Clark trailed closely behind with 7,394 votes, representing 49.23% of the vote.

Both Anniece Barker and Kieth L. Clark were unavailable to make comments.

Out of the 67,194 ballots mailed to registered voters, the Spokane County Auditor’s Office has received 15,862.

Tuesday evening marked a voter turnout of 23.61%, but this is anticipated to rise as additional ballots are processed in the upcoming days.

The election will be certified on November 28.
