Arrest made after DUI-related collision in Cheney

CHENEY – Several people were injured and one was arrested in a late night crash at the intersection of 1st and F street in the early hours of October 29, 2023.

The driver responsible was identified as 20-year-old Carson Goetz, a resident of Spokane.

The incident involved two vehicles, a white Chevy Camaro and a Honda CRV, and was marked by high speeds, severe impact, and the arrest of the Camaro’s driver for driving under the influence.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the white Chevy Camaro was traveling at an estimated speed of around 100 miles per hour, heading northbound on 1st Street.

Meanwhile, the Honda CRV was exiting the Owl Pharmacy parking lot onto 1st Street when the collision occurred.

The collision’s impact caused significant damage to both vehicles.

The force of the collision sent the Honda CRV spinning before it ultimately crashed into a tree located on the sidewalk near Ohana BBQ.

Evidence of the speed and severity of the crash was further confirmed by the extensive skid marks left on the road by the Chevy Camaro, which stretched over a distance of 280 feet.

Fortunately, all other occupants of the vehicles involved in the collision were treated at the scene by emergency responders and were subsequently released. Their injuries, while potentially significant, did not require further hospitalization.

Goetz was subjected to field sobriety testing, which revealed that he was driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs. Consequently, he was arrested and transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center for evaluation.

Local law enforcement authorities are now investigating the incident further, with the possibility of additional charges being brought against Carson Goetz.
