May host part of tournament
SPOKANE VALLEY – The West Valley Eagles are running a very strong program this year, and currently sitting as the number one team in the state.
According to Head Coach C.C. Collins the team is looking for a strong postseason run, and the team is currently undefeated at 15-0.
They have been in the top two spots all year long, and now look to enter the state competition as the number one seed.
The Eagles went undefeated through the regular season last year also, but then they lost in the semi-finals to Columbia River dashing their state dreams.
The 2023 team wants to win it all this year, and according to Collins that is the number one goal this year with very realistic expectations.
Collins, a teacher in the kindergarten center, is confident the Eagles will finish the regular season without losing. Their final regular season game was against another strong team in Clarkston on Oct. 19. Scores weren't yet available at the time of publication.
West Valley has already blanked Clarkston 5-0 earlier in the season on Oct. 3, and Collins said that was an impressive win against another strong team.
"We have been playing better this year," Collins said. "Last year we were only able to beat Clarkston by one goal but we played smarter this year and came away with a big win."
According to West Valley Athletic Director Jamie Nilles, if the team continues to play on the same level they will be in line to host the first two stages of the state tournament.
Coach Collins started as a player and developed deep roots with the program.
She played on the West Valley team for four years and has since come full circle to coach the powerhouse soccer club.
"It has been a really fun experience to be able to play for West Valley," Collins said. "To then come full circle and be able to coach an incredibly eager and skilled team has been extremely rewarding."
