Varsity girls finish 1-2-3 in their race
MEDICAL LAKE -Running its lone race at home this season proved to be beneficial for Medical Lake Cross Country as the Cardinal boys and girls both ran to victory.
The boys defeated Riverside 25-31 and Deer Park 15-47, while the girls topped Riverside 19-37 and Deer Park 20-35.
The girls were, perhaps, the most dominant with a 1-2-3 finish, led again by Kaylee Dennler in 20 minutes, 53 seconds followed by Hazel Grubuagh (21:59), Kaitlyn Wiley (20:17) and Autumn Trout (23:23/5th).
A pair of freshman, Mya Gardner (25:42/13th) and Madi Griffis (25:52/15th) rounded out the Cardinal finishers who ran with just six runners.
Boys had three runners in the top five behind winner, Cade Spencer from Riverside (17:12.7).
Hector Gomez (18:03/2nd) was followed by Garrett Montney (18:06/3rd) and Nakai Ornleas (18:15/5th). Hayden Luzier (18:57/7th) Aiden Murillo (20:09/8th) completed the Cardinals' top-10 finishers.
Medical Lake got to find out how it stacked up in the Northeast A League when the Cardinals travel for an Oct. 11 meet at Lakeside which also features Freeman.
"Both our boys and girls' varsity are showing consistent improvement from week-to-week, especially at the fifth and sixth position which is vital for upcoming races," head coach Gene Blankenship wrote in an email.
ML runners will next compete at the Lewis & Clark XC Invitational, Oct. 14 near Portland, Oregon and conclude their league schedule Oct. 14 at Freeman.
