Bears top Blackhawks, 16-4

SPOKANE VALLEY – Central Valley girls got on the scoreboard first and stayed ahead of Cheney for a 16-4 win on Monday, Sept. 25.

Th e Bears (7-6, 4-3 in league) scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and 4 in the bottom of the second before Cheney could get a runner home in the GSL slow pitch softball matchup.

Cheney (2-8, 1-5 in league), scored one run in the top of the 3rd.

But Central Valley put the game away in the bottom of the fourth with an 11-run rally to take a 16-1 lead. Cheney answered with three runs in the top of the fifth, not enough runs to stay in the game.

Cheney had 12 hits and 4 errors in the game; Central Valley had 22 hits and 2 errors.

Elle Bendele led the Bears with 2 hits, a double and a triple.

Mia Ashcroft turned out the hits for Cheney, with 3 hits and 2 RBIs.

Central Valley currently sits in fourth in the GSL, one step behind University (10-1, 5-0 in league).

University topped Central Valley, 15-0, in league play on Tuesday night, Sept. 26. Stats for that game were not reported.

Ridgeline (5-4, 3-2 in league) is in fifth and East Valley (3-6, 2-4 in league) is in ninth.

Central Valley travels to Gonzaga Prep for a 4 p.m. game on Oct. 3; the Bears then host Ridgeline at 4 p.m. Oct. 5.
