Cheney boys, girls win Apple Ridge Invite in Yakima

Blackhawk runners dominate meet

YAKIMA – The Blackhawks boys and girls cross country teams dominated the Apple Ridge Run Invite on Saturday, Sept. 16, winning both divisions.

Cheney won the boys division with a low team score of 20. Rounding out the Top 5 teams are Cedarcrest, second with 47 points, Walla Walla third with 55, and Moses Lake and Selah tied for fourth with 67 points.

In the varsity girls team scores, Cheney had a winning team low of 26 points.

Moses Lake was second with 51, Chiawana third with 68, Selah fourth with 70 and Kennewick fifth with 73.

The meet featured multiple heats on different 3-mile courses.

In Flight No. 1 on the Figure 8, junior Calvin Hilton finished second for Cheney with a time of 14:58. Teammates senior Conor Thomsen was fourth in 16:03 and sophomore Ethan Martin fifth in 16:09.

Landon Jenkins finished 10th for Cheney in 17:05.

In Flight No. 2 on the main race course, Blackhawks freshman Samuel Hilton finished third in 16:28 and junior Brayden Martin fourth in 16:37.

Cheney junior Lucas Matos was 7th in 17:08.

In Flight No. 3 on the Orchard Loop, junior Cameron Frenk was second with a time of 16:22 for Cheney, followed by teammate junior Yuta Inoue fifth in 17:19.

Cheney junior Holland Hurd was 7th in 17:30.

In the girls division in Flight No. 1 on the Figure 8, junior Maggie Boggs was third and freshman Lakia Heward fourth for Cheney. Boggs finished in 19:52 and Heward in 20:23.

Blackhawk teammate freshman Reese Randles was 15th in 22:28.

In Flight No. 2 on the main race course, senior Karlee Pope was fourth in 19:59 for Cheney.

Blackhawks freshman Gabriella “Ella” Smith was 7th in 20:40 and junior Claire Davis 28th in 24:08.

Junior Hannah Ward finished Flight No. 3 on the Orchard Loop in second place, with a time of 20:27 for Cheney. Blackhawks teammates freshman Isabella Adaszewski was 6th in 22:29.

The Blackhawks runners were scheduled to compete Wednesday in their first Greater Spokane League meet with Mount Spokane and Central Valley.
