Valleyfest coming this weekend

SPOKANE VALLEY - Valleyfest is scheduled to happen from Sept. 22-24.

A lot of the festivities will take place at CenterPlace Regional Event Center and Mirabeau Point Park. There will also be activities at Plante’s Ferry Sports Complex and other venues.

Area residents can expect to see a lot of cultural performances while music fills the air.

Vietnamese dancers will perform at one point, and Spokane Taiko will bring traditional Japanese drumming to the park.

Buddhist Bon Odori dancers will also grace one of the stages with a performance.

Look for an enhanced city booth on Saturday, Sept. 23, on the West Lawn Plaza at CenterPlace.

The city will celebrate its first 20 years along with the Spokane Valley Heritage Museum, featuring historical displays, a time capsule and games!

Organizers will have a mobile anniversary display, and they invite guests to take photos.

Spokane Cornhole will provide eight boards and we will have cornhole with the cops off and on during the day.

Nearby, Valleyfest will have food trucks, a wine/beer garden and live music beginning at 11 a.m.

A more formal anniversary celebration will happen about 5 p.m. at the West Lawn Plaza.

The program is expected to last about 30 minutes and will include recognition of current and former elected officials, 20th Anniversary Committee members, birthday cake and other festivities.

The city is sponsoring two bands that same evening. The Kevin Shay Band will play at 5:30 p.m. and Nu Jack City takes the stage at 8 p.m.
